Sunwapta Falls

Sunwapta Falls

Immediately out of Jasper, we hit the Icefields Parkway, and then a whole new vista opened up to us.  One of our first stops is at Sunwapta Falls, another spectacular falls, this one on the Sunwapta River.  The falls itself is narrower than the Athabasca Falls, but no less impressive.

At the bottom of the falls, the river makes a complete direction change.  It was going northwest, and now it is going southwest.

We saw some girls out on a very narrow rock right at the beginning of the falls, just by that single spray to the right  of the picture.  Despite signs all around not to go beyond the fence, they were taking pictures of each other out on this slippery rock.  It was a disturbing sight, and I am still wondering if they got out of there safely.
They are not in this picture.  I couldn't take it.
