Two tomatoes, Half an Avocado and a Lime. And 10,891 Miles!

We crossed into the US shortly after we left our campsite.  This time, the border agent took two tomatoes, half an avocado, and a lime.  I told her she was putting a serious dent in my salad for dinner and she laughed.  We were afraid they would ask us how long we had been in Canada, and since we had crossed into Montana the day before on the boat, the real answer was only a few hours.  Oh well!  They didn't ask.

Today is day 97 of our trip, and we have gone 10,891 miles so far.

Almost immediately, I spotted a really dark object beside the road.  A Bear?  A Black Moose ?(there are such things). No, now we are in cattle country, and there turn out to be many of them on the free range. Like the bears, they own the road!

We immediately enter Glacier National Park, and opt to take the first road to Many Glacier, about twelve miles in.  There is a railroad hotel there, but nothing like the ones built in Canada.

Today is cold and rainy.  After stopping at the visitors center and then choosing a camping site close to the Eastern entrance at Rising Sun, we took in the view of St. Mary's Lake and also an Osprey nest close by. (Not a clear picture, but the only one I got before she flew off.)

There is a small river, only two miles long at the end of the lake, and it was well known to the natives as the place where elk and deer foraged and crossed.  The Osprey is feeding her young from fish caught in this river.

Taken in 1914 right where we are standing

We learned just before we arrived at Glacier that our camper is too long to go across the Going-to-the-Sun-Road, the only road through the park.  There is construction work occurring, and they are running shuttles.

We take a shuttle and go to tWe he top of Logan Pass.  It is cold!  The temperature is about 50 and the wind chill makes it about 35 degrees!  We take a quick look around and then take the shuttle back to the campground. We are looking forward to seeing more of these magnificent views!
