Dodge Power Wagon

Dodge Power Wagon

All along our route, we have seen these old Dodge Power Wagons.

They were ¾ ton trucks used in the building of the Alaska Highway. Some are fixed up, others are left to rust.

They were developed for the military, but in 1946, the Dodge Power wagon was introduced to the public.   They were the predecessors of many of the four-wheel drive trucks on the road today.  They were replaced by the Dodge Ram.

In Whitehorse, we saw these other vehicles used during the building of the highway.

Inside the old ambulance it says,  “Vehicle cost $4797.  Max speed 35.’

Even on today’s roads, we sometimes had a hard time getting up to 35 miles per hour!
