Liarsville

Liarsville

There are a lot of tour buses in Skagway, and some of them go to a Gold Rush reenactment area called Liarsville.  The story goes that reporters waiting for news of the Gold Rush would wait at the base of the pass for miners returning from Dawson City to ask them about their experiences.

The people coming back this way were usually the ones that didn’t make it all the way to Dawson.  So, not wanting to admit defeat, they would make something up.  Hence, the area became known as Liarsville.

What intrigued me about this bus, however, was that right in front of the back tires was a compartment filled with sand, and a shoot that deposits sand directly in front of the tires.  Such a clever device to take care of ice or snow that hampers the tour!
