The Eagles at Homer

Homer Eagles

We were told that Homer is the place to see Eagles, and they are everywhere.  A man at the visitor’s bureau told us of a pair that had a nest close by.  In fact, it is right on the highway, and right across from a McDonalds.  John was able to get some fabulous pictures.

At our campsite, we looked out the window, and there was a huge eagle sitting on the beach.  It was so cold and windy, but John geared up and went out to take some pictures.

There was a lady named Jean Keene, the Eagle Lady, who fed the Eagles on the Spit.  She passed away recently and a law is in force that feeding the Eagles is prohibited.  It is reported that at times she had 400 Eagles depending on her food, a number that was unsustainable, and made the Spit a pretty inhospitable place for humans, and other birds, etc.  Nevertheless, they are magnificent, and always a thrill to see.
