What's up with the Dandelions?

There are so many beautiful wild flowers around, and as we move from south to north, we get to see the same species blooming in a more northern latitude.  As a result, this has been the longest spring I've ever experienced.  The most ubiquitous is the dandelion.

Over heard in the grocery store, this converation between two men:
'What's up with the dandelions on the (Kenai) Peninsula this year?  They're everywhere!"  "I don't know, I sprayed mine two weeks ago and they died, but then they came back bigger and better than ever."

I have written about them before, but they are just beautiful!  They line the roadsides, the meadows, the campgrounds, the lakesides, and river shores. The ribbons of yellow they provide give a lift to already spectacular scenery.

I am beginning to put some names to  some of the other flowers.  The state flower is the Forget-Me-Not, which is the small, single purple flower that is last among these pictures.  The prickly thorny one is the Devil's Club, with stickers that snared many stampeders along the Chilkoot Pass to the Gold Rush.  It is mentioned as having made them miserable!
