Tundra Lakes and Tors

Tundra on the Arctic Circle

We passed through the forests of birch and soon came to more tundra and permafrost.  There were some rock formations called “Tors” that stuck up from the tundra floor.  They were the last vestiges of granite left from sever erosion that occurred during the ice age.
Part of the vista was tundra lakes.  These are melting snow that lays on top of the permafrost and eventually pools to form the beginning of rivers.  There were pretty flowers (a separate blog)  here, and our truck made a stark contrast with its mud-covered sides.
