We stop to get diesel as we head out of town, and the first thing John points out to me is a sign in the window that says “DB Cooper, You have a Message”. That immediately piqued my interest! You have to be of a certain age and mindset to know about DB Cooper. I had to ask about it. The answer I got was that he hadn’t checked in yet!
The station owner came here in 1989 on a hunting and fishing trip with two buddies and never went home but his two buddies did. He is from Page Arizona, and visits his parents there every two or three years. His passion is hunting, fishing and camping, and it doesn’t get any better than this!
We paid a high price for diesel, but he had a dumping station and we could get potable water, so it was worth the price.
We had full bars on our phones here, so we checked email messages, and John saw that our good friend Ken McIntyre had a stroke on Sunday. John called and left a message with his wife Betsy, and then our son Jack to ask him to check on Ken’s condition. We will have to wait until we get back in Alaska in another day to see how he is doing. We will skirt through both British Columbia and the Yukon in Canada before getting back in the US.
