Fishing in Homer

The halibut season is underway, and salmon are also being caught, but not in very big numbers.

We saw a commercial boat come in the halibut offloaded, iced, put in totes and then put on a truck, presumably for Anchorage, where they will be shipped all over the US.

We also caught a glimpse of some charter catches, a couple of Kings, and some Halibut.
These young men work with no shirts, I suppose for photo ops, and it worked!

My camera was acting up, and the shutter wouldn’t open.  I didn’t realize it right away, so this shot is through a partially opened lens!

Right across the road from our camper is a place called the fishing hole.  It is a man made area where the tidal waters bring in fish, and when the tide recedes, the fish can't get out.  A lot of local people fish here, and I have a feeling that the fish they catch here are a pretty important part of keeping food on the table.  There are huge restrictions on what can be caught, but people come and go with the tides and seem to be catching fish here regularly.
